Recovery
As with every treatment of this kind there is a short recovery period which lasts between one week to ten days.
During this period, it is important to follow these rules:
-
At the end of the procedure you must apply a non-antibiotic treatment balm which contains antiseptic and moisturizing ingredients and cover it with a bandage for
one to two hours. Choosing the colors we want to work with, we have to try and copy the shape and the size of the areola and nipple while taking into account that we must copy it as it is in its normal state and not when it is contracted. This can lead to a lack of symmetry by the end of the healing process. -
During the reconstruction procedure we must be aware of the fact that inserting a color with a needle causes redness of the skin for a few seconds immediately after skin contact with the vibrating needle. Although this is a natural and normal part of the procedure, the artist must still remember that the color of the nipple will look different or more reddish at the end of the procedure, and that this is a normal part of the procedure of inserting the pigment into the skin. In some cases when we insert dark pigments such as dark browns the redness of the skin may not be visible at first, but when we insert the pigments of the areola which are closer to the natural shades of a light nipple, such as light browns or pink, we may notice a redness of the skin which will look darker than the skin shades which we are using.
-
During the entire healing and recovery period do not go swimming in pool or any body of water.
-
Do not tan the treated area or expose it to the sun.
-
Do not use a sauna or a Jacuzzi during the entire recovery period.
-
Do not scratch or peel the scab.
-
A treatment balm must be applied twice a day, morning and evening, during the entire recovery period.
SLIGHT SWELLING and redness following the procedure and the skin may feel tight and sensitive. These symptoms will ease within 1–7 days depending on how sensitive
your skin is and how much post-surgical feeling has been preserved. Tylenol or Ibuprofen may be in order.
PEELING or scabbing may begin in about a week. DO NOT PICK, PEEL, RUB OR SCRATCH the epithelial crust — allow it to flake off on its own, otherwise your color may heal unevenly and you risk infection. As the pigmented area heals and dries, it forms a scab lasting 14–21 days. Scarring can occur if scabs are removed prematurely. Allow them to fall off naturally to preserve color.
Some itching is normal. You may consider taking Benadryl if that helps. You will then notice slight fading of the pigment and softening of the color. Your tattoo may have a waxy or shiny appearance when it first peels — this is completely normal.
Healing Process
A transient redness is expected immediately following the procedure. The result will tend to look darker in appearance but will lighten considerably after a few days and gradually settle over the next few weeks. The Pigmentation will get “darker” before it gets lighter, please do not be alarmed. This is part of the healing process.

Showering
Don't soak in a pool, bath, or hot tub until your tattoo is completely healed. This usually takes about 2 weeks. Before showering: using a cotton swab, gently apply a thin coat of A&D Ointment, Vaseline, or Aquaphor over the treated areas. Do not let hot water spray directly onto the tattooed area. Gently clean the area with warm water and mild/baby soap. Rinse until all surface blood, ointment, and soap have been removed. Do not rub. After showering, dry the area gently. Apply ointment and dry around the tattoo by blotting very gently with a damp (distilled water) white paper towel. Air dry for 15–30 minutes or use a hair dryer on a low setting until the tattoo feels taut and dry. Rebandage with non-stick pads whenever wearing clothing over the tattoo (such as a bra). Avoid tight clothing if possible.
NOTE: If infection is suspected, Please consult a healthcare provider at first sign of infection.
